If your ERA-DSTX driveway sensor is missing vehicles, working inconsistently, or failing at night, start with positioning, detection angle, and sensitivity settings before replacing equipment.
Optimal Sensor Positioning
As a passive infrared motion sensor, the ERA-DSTX relies on detecting both heat and movement. Proper positioning is crucial for reliable performance:
- Height: mount 3-5 feet above ground level
- Distance: position approximately 20 feet from driveway edge
- Mounting Surface: choose wooden posts, fences, or trees
- Avoid: metal surfaces that may interfere with transmission
Fine-Tuning Your Sensor
Angle Adjustment
- Keep sensor lens level with the ground
- Avoid pointing downward at tires
- Ensure beam isn't aimed too high above vehicles
- Consider testing opposite side of driveway if issues persist
Detection Zone Configuration
The ERA-DSTX offers adjustable detection ranges from 25 to 100+ feet. Optimize your settings:
- Match DIP switch settings to actual distance
- Stay within 20-foot ideal mounting distance when possible
- Adjust range if sensor is mounted further than setting allows

- 10-Second Reset: best for regular traffic, captures more frequent vehicle passages, ideal for busy driveways
- 120-Second Reset: reduces frequent alerts, suitable for high-traffic periods (may miss vehicles within reset window)

Signal Strength Optimization
