Safeguard Supply ERA-DSRXPG Driveway Monitor Kit

The ERA-DSRXPG driveway alarm kit is built around two components from the Safeguard Supply ERA Series: the ERA-DSTX wireless driveway sensor and the ERA-RXPG plug-in strobe receiver. Together they form a driveway alert system that detects vehicles or people near a drive and sends that information to an indoor receiver up to 4,000 feet away in line-of-sight conditions. This makes the kit suitable for long or obstructed driveways where short-range systems struggle to reach the building.

The system is designed for straightforward installation: the sensor mounts on a post or similar surface near the driveway and is powered by a single 9V battery, while the receiver plugs into a standard outlet inside. Once paired, motion detected at the drive will trigger the chosen chime and optional strobe inside the monitored area.

The ERA-DSTX is a passive infrared (PIR) motion detector rated for outdoor use that monitors a section of driveway or approach lane. It senses the heat of moving people or vehicles crossing its field of view and sends a radio signal to the ERA-RXPG when motion is detected. The sensor includes an internal range setting that lets the installer choose between three detection distances so that coverage can be matched to the actual driveway layout.

The ERA-DSTX offers three range settings: low for up to about 25 feet, medium for up to about 50 feet, and high for up to about 100 feet of detection distance. This adjustment helps reduce unwanted detections from areas beyond the driveway while still providing adequate coverage for the intended approach. Installation notes for the ERA-DSTX recommend mounting the sensor three to four feet above ground level and roughly twenty feet back from the side of the drive, aimed across the path of travel rather than down the driveway. Mounting it on a wooden post, fence, or tree is preferred, as steel posts and flexible supports can affect both radio performance and stability. The sensor should be fixed so it does not move in the wind and should not be aimed toward public roads in the distance, since the detection range on the high setting can extend beyond 100 feet.

The sensor’s internal jumpers allow adjustment of the outdoor filter, range, and reset time between activations. For driveway use, the outdoor filter is normally enabled to ignore small movements such as leaves; the reset time can be set so that the sensor waits 10 seconds or 120 seconds before sending another alert after a detection. Fine-tuning these options and walking or driving test passes through the driveway is a common way to verify that the detection zone matches the desired coverage.

The receiver offers three operating modes: strobe only, sound only, or sound and strobe together, with multiple melodies and four volume levels available.

Each ERA-RXPG can be programmed with up to 12 different ERA transmitters, and each transmitter can use a distinct melody, allowing driveway alerts from the ERA-DSTX to be identified separately from door or interior sensors if the system is expanded. There is no limit to the number of ERA receivers that can be tied to a given transmitter, so additional ERA-RXPG units or other ERA receivers can be added in other areas of the building if wider coverage is needed.

When a vehicle or person enters the monitored section of the driveway, the sensor detects the motion and sends a signal to the receiver.

The ERA-RXPG then plays the assigned melody and optionally flashes the strobe for a short period, alerting staff or residents that someone has arrived. If additional receivers are used elsewhere in the building, the same sensor signal can activate them as well, keeping people informed in more than one location.

Because both components belong to the ERA Series, the ERA-DSRXPG kit can be expanded using other ERA transmitters and receivers. Additional ERA-DSTX driveway sensors may be added for multiple drives, or other transmitters such as push buttons, magnetic contacts, or indoor motion sensors can be paired with the ERA-RXPG. Each transmitter can be assigned its own tone, making it possible to distinguish driveway alerts from door or interior alerts by sound alone.

There is also flexibility on the receiving side: the ERA-DSTX can trigger not only ERA-RXPG plug-in receivers but also other ERA receiver models, allowing a mix of desktop, portable, and plug-in units as needed around the property.
